The Assistant Chief will provide emergency medical care and transportation for all patients encountered in the pre-hospital setting.
The Assistant Chief will be a senior operations officer of TONEMS in the absence of the Chief and second in command of operations.

Officers Membership Duties 1.
Assist in the application, creation, and development of TONEMS's ALS program which includes but is not limited to:
Applications, forms, and documents Equipment Personnel State / Regional Meetings 2.
Backup to the Chief and will be the acting Chief during the absence of the Chief.
3.
May assist, directly supervise or delegate tasks assigned to operational officers to ensure they perform their job functions adequately.
4.
Responsible for overall EMS operations of TONEMS (BLS / ALS) in the best interests of the organization and the community.
5.
Ensures membership and operational officers perform their job functions adequately.
In doing so, the Assistant Chief may assist, directly supervise or delegate these tasks as needed as long as the delegation is appropriate and monitored.
6.
Assists in scheduling of crews to staff the ambulance including but not limited to daily shifts, standbys, volunteers, MCI operations, and other special events where coverage will be required.
7.
Ensures all TONEMS vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and repaired as needed to ensure the safe response and transport of patients and crews.
8.
Ensures that all EMS supplies are kept at a TONEMS minimum level and in date, both in the emergency vehicles and supply closets.
9.
Ensures Quality Assessment / Quality Improvement reports of all calls are being completed with follow up meetings being conducted as required.
10.
Ensures the completion of documentation for all calls as required in a timely manner.
Documentation includes but is not limited to PCRs and Incident Reports.
11.
Responsible for the full range of membership supervisory activities including recruitment, staffing, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
12.
Completes reviews, maintains succession plans, and observations of membership.
13.
Provides personnel development and mentorship to all members.
14.
Adheres to and ensures enforcement of all TONEMS policies and procedures and the bylaws including the creation of policy and procedure changes / updates.
15.
Attends all TONEMS required training, holds Officers meetings monthly and attends Board of Directors meetings.
16.
Conducts themselves as a representative of TONEMS in and out of uniform while on or off shift.
Job Functions 1.
Will provide input and assistance in the budget process including line items directly effecting operations.
2.
Safely operates all TONEMS vehicles according to the TONEMS policy and procedure and New York State Vehicle and Traffic regulations.
3.
Identifies opportunities for continuous process improvement within the organization.
4.
Establishes and executes objectives and implementation plans.
5.
Establishes processes, procedures, and controls.
6.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications 1.
Minimum of one of the following:
Five years of EMS (ALS) experience with satisfactory service Two years of college education or equivalent educational experience in related field Honorable discharge from the United States Military as a paramedic 2.
Minimum three years managerial experience including road operations including but not limited to managing paid / unpaid staff, direct / indirect reports, and delegation of duties.

Must be at least 21 years of age.
4.
Be willing to carry a pager/radio and/or cell phone at all times while on duty and when off duty.
5.
Must possess at time of employment and maintain a valid, insurable New York State Driver's license and possess proof of completion of an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC).
6.
Must possess at time of employment and maintain a valid New York State Provider Card, PALS, ACLS, and CPR certifications.
7.
Must have at least five years as an active paramedic.
8.
Must possess all applicable certifications.
9.
Must meet the requirements as described by the New York State Department of Health, HVREMSCO and TONEMS paramedic Job Description.
10.
Must be able to communicate verbal and written thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively.
11.
