Bridge Welder

The Bridge Welder, under general supervision, performs high-level structural maintenance and repair and all types of welding on Thruway structures, including other high-level bridges; fabricates bridge members and accessories in the shop and in the field; supervises helpers and laborers engaged in major steel repairs to bridges; using shop drawings and plans, fabricates steel members, catwalks, ladders and light fixtures and installs such items on high-level bridges using scaffolds and boatswain chair which the employee has rigged; works as a blacksmith and welder in fabricating special purpose tools and making repairs to equipment; and may be assigned to supervise other journey-level workers in the absence of a supervisor.

Salary Range:
From $22.73 to $31.93 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
Four years of satisfactory full-time experience working under a skilled journey-level welder which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. In addition, must have NYS Department of Transportation Welder Certification valid for unlimited thickness and vertical, horizontal and overhead welding. The candidate must obtain a valid Commercial Driver License Class B before completing probation.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
